Billbooks vs Harvest

Harvest is a strong time tracker for teams, and since its 2026 repricing the seat figure is only a base rate: invoices, projects, clients and tasks are billed on usage at rates its pricing page does not list. Billbooks charges one flat price for the whole business, with no usage billing, and does less.

Track time for a team, or bill for the work?

Harvest is built for teams who need to track, analyse and invoice their time, and it reports on that properly. That depth is real, and since 2026 it is priced as a per-seat base rate with invoices, projects, clients and tasks billed on usage on top. Billbooks is priced per business, bills nothing on usage, tracks time against projects, and does not do the reporting.

Harvest tiers and plan features as of 17 October 2026, from their own pricing page and its plan comparison table: Free (1 seat, 2 projects, with a note that the usage of some features may require the payment of fees), Teams from $9 per seat a month billed annually ($108 per seat a year) or $11 monthly, Enterprise from $14 billed annually ($168 a year) or $17.50 monthly, and Enterprise Plus at custom pricing. Both paid tiers say starting from, and state that as your team grows, additional invoices, projects, clients and tasks are billed based on what you use; those per-unit rates are not printed on the page. Harvest was acquired by Bending Spoons in 2025. Where their page does not mention a feature, no claim is made about it here. Prices can change. Why people pick Billbooks for invoicing

A price that is the price

One flat monthly cost for the whole business. Nothing is billed per invoice, per project, per client or per task, so next year's figure is the one on the page.

Adding a colleague costs nothing

Two users on the entry plan, five on the next, ten above that. You only pay more when you cross a plan limit, and then it is one step rather than a per-seat fee.

Invoicing extras on every plan

Reminders, recurring invoices, quotes with digital signatures, expenses and the push to Xero or QuickBooks Online are on the cheapest plan, not gated above it.

Where Harvest may suit you better

To be straight with you: Harvest is a better time tracking and reporting tool than Billbooks, and if you use that half of it you should keep it. Timesheet approvals, profitability by project, unlimited custom reports and SAML single sign-on are Harvest Enterprise features with no equivalent here, and team reporting starts at Teams. Billbooks tracks time against projects and clients and turns unbilled time into invoice lines. That is where it stops. The case for moving is only strong if what you actually do in Harvest is track time and send the invoice.

One flat price for the business. Nothing billed on usage.

Questions

Is Billbooks cheaper than Harvest? +

On the published figures yes, and the gap widens with team size. Billbooks Basic is $7.95 a month for the whole business. Harvest Teams starts at $11 per seat a month billed monthly, so ten people start at $110 before any usage billing. Billbooks Professional covers ten users for $29.95.

What does Harvest do that Billbooks does not? +

Timesheet approvals, profitability reporting by project, unlimited custom reports and SAML single sign-on, all on its Enterprise tier, plus team reporting from Teams up. Billbooks has none of those. If a manager approves timesheets each week or you price work off profitability by project, Harvest is the better tool and it is not a close call.

Should I switch from Harvest to Billbooks? +

Switch if your Harvest use is mostly track time then send the invoice, and the renewal quote has stopped being a number you can plan around. Stay if the team reporting is doing real work for you, because replacing a tool you use properly with a cheaper one you then work around is not a saving.

Is Billbooks a good Harvest alternative for invoicing? +

It replaces the invoicing half at a flat price for the business rather than a floor per seat, with nothing billed on usage, and it tracks time against projects so billable hours still become invoice lines. It does not replace Harvest as a team reporting platform.

How much does Harvest cost per seat? +

Teams starts at $9 per seat a month billed annually, which Harvest shows as $108 per seat a year, or $11 billed monthly. Enterprise starts at $14 billed annually, shown as $168 a year, or $17.50 monthly. Enterprise Plus is custom priced. Those are floors rather than totals, because usage is billed on top.

Why did my Harvest bill go up in 2026? +

Harvest was acquired by Bending Spoons in 2025 and repriced in 2026. The per-seat figure became a base rate, with additional invoices, projects, clients and tasks billed on what you use. Both paid tiers now read starting from rather than naming a price.

Does Billbooks charge usage fees? +

No. There is no per-invoice, per-project, per-client or per-task charge. The plan price covers the plan, and the limits are on users and clients rather than on how much work you do.

Does Billbooks track time like Harvest? +

It tracks time against projects and clients, with a timer or by entry, and turns unbilled time into invoice lines. It does not do timesheet approvals, profitability reporting by project, capacity planning or forecasting, all of which Harvest does.

Is Harvest better than Billbooks? +

For tracking a team's time and reporting on it, yes, that is what Harvest is built for. For sending invoices and getting paid at a price you can budget from, Billbooks is simpler and cheaper, and charges per business rather than per seat.

How does the pricing compare for a team of ten? +

Billbooks Professional covers ten users at $29.95 a month for the whole business. Ten Harvest Teams seats start at $110 a month billed monthly, or $90 billed annually, before any usage billing is added. The comparison is a floor against a fixed price, so the real gap is larger.

Can I move my Harvest data across? +

Export your clients, projects and invoices from Harvest, rebuild what is still outstanding, and keep the old account as read-only history until the year is filed. Paid invoices and old time entries rarely need moving. We are building a direct importer and will say here when it is ready.

Is there a free trial? +

Yes, 30 days with no credit card. The free calculators and generators need no account at all, so you can work out the numbers and send a real invoice before signing up for anything.
