GST-ready invoicing for Singapore businesses

Singapore invoicing means IRAS-compliant tax invoices that carry your GST registration number and the current 9% GST, and, with InvoiceNow rolling out, keeping your invoices as clean structured data. Billbooks handles the compliance so you get paid without the paperwork.

Built for how you invoice

GST at 9%, done right

Billbooks applies the current 9% GST and shows it as a separate amount, so invoices are correct after the 2024 rate change.

IRAS-compliant tax invoices

The words "tax invoice", your GST number, and the required fields appear automatically, with a simplified invoice for totals up to SGD 1,000.

Structured invoice data

Your invoices are stored as clean, structured data, a useful foundation as Singapore rolls out its InvoiceNow e-invoicing network.

GST and your tax invoices

GST in Singapore is 9%, raised from 8% on 1 January 2024. You must register for GST once your annual taxable turnover exceeds SGD 1 million, and voluntary registration is available below that. A tax invoice must show the words "tax invoice", your GST registration number, and the GST as a separate amount, and be issued within 30 days of the supply. A simplified tax invoice is allowed for totals up to SGD 1,000. Singapore is also rolling out InvoiceNow, its Peppol-based e-invoicing network, in phases. Billbooks applies the current 9% GST and includes the required fields on every invoice.

What a Singapore tax invoice must include

IRAS requires a tax invoice to carry these details. Billbooks includes them on every invoice.

The words "tax invoice"
An invoice number and the date of issue
Your business name, address and GST registration number
The customer name and address
A description of the goods or services
For each line: quantity or extent, and the amount excluding GST
Any cash discount offered
The total excluding GST, the GST rate, and the GST as a separate amount
The total amount payable including GST
A breakdown of exempt or zero-rated supplies, if applicable

IRAS-ready tax invoices, paid faster.

Questions

When do I have to register for GST in Singapore? +

You must register once annual taxable turnover exceeds SGD 1 million, and voluntary registration is available below that. GST is 9%, raised from 8% on 1 January 2024.

What must a Singapore tax invoice include? +

A Singapore tax invoice must show the words tax invoice, your GST registration number, an identifying number, the date, the customer name and address, a description of the supply, and the GST amount along with the total payable.

Does Billbooks file my GST F5 return with IRAS? +

No. Billbooks issues compliant Singapore tax invoices showing your GST registration number and the 9% GST, but it does not file the GST F5 return with IRAS. You or your accountant do that. Billbooks is invoicing software, not a filing service.

Can I invoice overseas clients from Singapore? +

Yes. Billbooks issues invoices in the client currency while you continue reporting in Singapore dollars, recording the exchange rate at the invoice date. Exported services are generally zero-rated and the tax treatment is set per line.

When did Singapore GST change to 9%? +

GST rose from 8% to 9% on 1 January 2024. Invoices spanning the change need the rate that applied at the time of supply, so check the date rather than assuming the current rate for older work.

Can I register for GST below SGD 1 million? +

Yes, voluntary registration is available below the SGD 1 million threshold. It lets you claim input tax but commits you to charging GST, filing returns and staying registered for a minimum period.

What wording must a Singapore tax invoice carry? +

It must show the words tax invoice, your GST registration number, an identifying number, the date, the customer's name and address, a description of the supply, and the GST amount alongside the total payable.

Does Billbooks create IRAS-compliant tax invoices? +

Yes. Billbooks produces tax invoices with the words "tax invoice", your GST registration number, the GST shown as a separate amount, and the required customer details, plus a simplified invoice for totals up to SGD 1,000.

What is the current GST rate? +

GST in Singapore is 9%, raised from 8% on 1 January 2024. Billbooks applies the current rate automatically.

What is the registration threshold? +

You must register for GST once your annual taxable turnover exceeds SGD 1 million. You can also register voluntarily below that, with a minimum two-year registration.

Does it help with InvoiceNow? +

Singapore is rolling out InvoiceNow, its Peppol-based e-invoicing network, in phases. Billbooks keeps your invoices as clean, structured data; check IRAS for the current timeline and whether the requirement applies to you.

What does it cost? +
