Return-ready invoices
Sequential numbering, HSN and SAC codes, and your GSTIN on every invoice, so your data lines up when you file.
GST is a destination-based tax. On sales within a state you charge CGST plus SGST; on inter-state sales you charge IGST. Since the September 2025 rate rationalisation, the two main slabs are 5% and 18%, with a special 40% rate on luxury and sin goods and a nil rate on many essentials. The rate depends on the item, identified by its HSN or SAC code, so each invoice line needs the correct rate and the right tax split based on the place of supply. Businesses above the government e-invoicing turnover threshold must also generate an e-invoice with a signed QR code.
Under Rule 46 of the CGST Rules, a valid GST tax invoice must carry these details. Billbooks fills them in for you on every invoice.
